FAQ: Out of the Woods (Fairy Tale Card Game and Book)
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Is "Out of the Woods" a video game?

No, this project will result in a Card Game, Illustrated Book, Colouring Book and Collection of Art Prints If the project is a big enough success and we can attract funding and publishing support then we’ll certainly consider turning the art and story into a video game.

What about other languages for the card game and book?

This really depends on the level of success we see with the campaign. We already have Card Game and Book publishers and retailers reaching out to us to discuss larger distribution of the project - so we do hope that we’ll reach a level of success that results in global distribution across a large number of languages.

I don't have money now, but I want to support. When will I be charged?

Kickstarter only collects your backer payment upon successful completion of the campaign. That means you can back at any time before August 18th and you will not be charged until the campaign closes successfully (around August 19th).

Stretch Goals & Playmats

We hit all of our Stretch Goals which means all Kickstarter backers who pledged for physical rewards will receive the following additional rewards: 1) A 53x53cm polyester scarf/playmat with OOTW logo. 2) An autographed and numbered collector’s certificate. 3) Option for printed instruction sheet in French, Italian, German, or Spanish (English instructions are automatically included).

Note: In response to backer demand we will produce a neoprene 53x53cm neoprene playmat with OOTW logo. This item is separate from the aforementioned polyester scarf/playmat Stretch Goal. The neoprene playmat is offered at a special Kickstarter/Backerkit price of $5 + $10 shipping (it’s heavy!). Price will increase once physical rewards ship to backers.

Sleeved Cards?

During the campaign, several backers requested a card box capable of holding sleeved cards. We’ve promised to do our best to make this happen and will be researching options. Keep an eye on project updates for additional info in the future.

Alice Assets?

During the campaign, we promised to release a .zip file of Alice art/design materials to all backers. Since the campaign ended we’ve posted two backer-only updates to Kickstarter with links to art/design materials. Please head over to Kickstarter and check out Update #19 (August 31st) and Update #17 (August 22nd) for those links.

Note that you’ll need the Mega app and an unzip program to access and open these files. It’s recommended you grab the files using a Windows PC or Mac. Mobile users have reported issues, so we advise against trying to grab these things via mobile devices unless you’re an advanced user.

Alice?

I do not control the future of Alice and cannot force a new game to be made. EA control the rights to the Alice franchise. They will not allow licensing , crowdfunding or outside investors to enable any new game development. We all just need to wait while EA decide to fund, develop and publish a new game.

American does chat with EA on this topic from time to time, but there’s no news to report as of now. For the Alice film rights, which American optioned from the Alice: Otherlands project, we’re still working to raise funding for a full purchase of the rights and production of a film.

PDF version of Illustrated Book

A PDF version of the “Out of the Woods” Illustrated Book will be delivered to everyone who signed up for the Mysterious Mailing list prior to the campaign launch on Kickstarter. This was an exclusive offer and we aren’t able to provide the PDF version of the Illustrated Book to anyone except those who signed up. Given that it’s a digital asset we do expect it will find its way into the wild and people will be able to find and download it online.

The PDF version of the book will be released once the physical book is finished and has started shipping to backers.

$10 to Ship the Neoprene Play Mat?

Why does the mat cost only $5 to purchase but $10 to ship?

Simple answer: Because the mat is heavy and shipping is expensive!

Complicated answer: Here’s a link to the HK Post website where you can calculate shipping fees. http://www.hongkongpost.hk/en/postage_calculator/

The mat weighs 400g and the shipping materials and tube another 100g. Sending a 500g tube from HK to UK is $9.26USD (7.15GBP). We’re charging a flat fee of $10USD to all locations in the world and assume shipping costs will increase to some degree by the time we start sending out these items.

At the same time, we’ve priced the mat itself at $5USD, which is essentially our cost. We’re doing this to honor our backers and those who support the project prior to when we start shipping physical rewards.

We will work with a logistics partner to pick-pack-ship all of our rewards, so our actual shipping cost will be lower (since we’re sending in bulk) but there are pick-pack-material costs which will bring the price back up to around $10 per mat.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
