Out of the Woods (Fairy Tale Card Game and Book)

Created by American McGee

Once upon a time... There was a game designer called American McGee who having lived a life of dramatic ups and downs, decided to present a unique take on a selection of traditional fairy tales as a Table Top Card Game, Illustrated Book, Coloring Book, and Collection of Art. He hoped the lessons contained within might help others along their journey through the dark woods of existence. With the success of this campaign we'll deliver a wicked card game, beautiful illustrated book, twisted coloring book, and turn "Out of the Woods" into an ongoing series of games, books, and original art. Don't be eaten by wolves. Get Out of the Woods!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Live-stream Alert - Come say hi !!
almost 6 years ago – Mon, Jun 04, 2018 at 02:20:13 AM

Dear Woodies

Once again, in our period of 'waiting' it's been a while since we posted an update, but this time, we're going to do something a bit more special for you and we're actually going to do a live-stream tomorrow (June 5th, 10am Shanghai Time)

Normally during our live-streams, we talk Alice3 and Pirate Jam and other stuff, but this one is OOTW ONLY !!!
So please join us and take a look and listen and even join in the YouTube chat and ask us stuff.  But of course, one of the main questions we'll be tackling is "Shipping date?"

If you can't make it to the stream, fret not, the video will still be viewable after it's finished.

Hope to see you online tomorrow.

Big hugs from American, Martin and Lulu.

- Cheers

Standard Box Template
almost 6 years ago – Tue, May 08, 2018 at 01:33:15 AM

Dear Woodies

Well, it's been a long time again.
But you know as soon as we have something new and interesting to show, we'll be right back.  And here we are with a sort of 3D rendering mock-up of the box template that Alex put together. (virtually wrapping the template art around a real pic of the box)

Now imagine the red bits foiled and also with shiny UV effects on   :)
We really hope it looks as ace as this when the factory starts making them.
Template art will be being sent to our production partners very soon !

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Incoming>>>

Yes, the certificates are being signed..... almost 4000 in total :'(
Spare a thought for our wrists !!

Big sunny snuggly Shanghai Hugs from American, Martin and Lulu.

Greetings, People of the Woods.

As mentioned in the previous update, the book prototypes for the Illustrated book and colouring book were heading towards Shanghai for us to get a good look at them.
Well, they arrived and they got a good looking at   :)

We have now given the factory the thumbs up to mass produce them as we found no issues with the quality or construction or printing or anything.
They look ACE !!!   And we think you guys will be super happy with them.

Here's some more pics I took....

--------------

You might also remember a couple of updates ago when we told you about the 2nd box prototype and how that had been altered and was also on its way to us.
We can now also confirm the 2nd prototype is fit for purpose and contains the cards very well, even sleeved as we promised we'd do.
(ok, we used CAH cards as placeholder, but they're gonna be the same size  ;)

Next step.
We get the box art template dimensions from the factory and make sure our box art fits and make adjustments if needed.

It's so great to see everything coming together.
We hope you feel the same  :D

-----------

And finally.......

* Pirate Jam is now over.   Why not check out our YouTube channel and watch all the fun and games that took place on this game jam in a tropical paradise?  (3 videos already uploaded, the 4th and final episode coming soon)

* Fantastic art still being produced in preparation for the Alice Asylum proposal.
This particular image is going to be next month's print for our patrons over on Patreon at the correct level.  I think 'stunning' correctly sums this up.....

Big, spring time hugs from American, Martin and Lulu.

Box! Before and After.
about 6 years ago – Mon, Mar 26, 2018 at 01:55:47 AM

Dear Woodies

As you mostly all know, we're at the stage now where we're just doing a lot of waiting, but we still want to swing by and show you stuff, and let you know we're still around whenever we can.

So we thought you'd like to see a little info about the 1st box prototype and what didn't quite work, then what was fixed, and you'll get a little glimpse into what we do behind the scenes   :)

Divider Issues
Divider Issues

As you can see in the above image, there's a few things we didn't like about the 1st attempt.
* You can see that where the material has folded, it's basically cracked wide open. Obviously we couldn't have that as it lead to....
* ...the actual glossy material peeling away extremely easy. Again, Not what we were looking for.
* You might also notice the *finger hole* doesn't reach the bottom of the box. This is not ideal for being able to get the cards out of the containers.
* Also what is not obvious from that pic is that the divider is slightly wider than we wanted, and that made sleeved cards an impossibility.

So, here is where prototype 2 comes in and as you can see below, all 4 of those issues have now been quickly resolved.
Thinner divider, bigger finger hole, no cracking or peeling.... yay!!
This new prototype is winging its way to us now and once we confirmed the quality and dimensions and card fitting snugglyness, that's yet another hurdle finished on the way to final production.

Hurrah!
Hurrah!

That's about it for OOTW at the moment.

--------------

However, you also know we're doing other projects too.

PIRATE JAM is almost upon us. In fact, American is already over in Thailand a week early, laying the final groundwork for when the 30 developers arrive and the whole thing kicks off on April 1st.   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and keep an eye out there for all the vlogs and such.

Over on PATREON, we're still creating awesome art and pushing hard towards doing a proposal to get Alice Asylum off the ground and developed.

Spooky!
Spooky!

So why not head over and support that too?
Did you know our next Patreon goal is to give every Patron who's at the $5 level and above a set of Alice inspired Embroidered patches once we hit 1000 Patrons?

Jump in now and be part of that, we only need another 50 people    :D
