Out of the Woods (Fairy Tale Card Game and Book)

Created by American McGee

Once upon a time... There was a game designer called American McGee who having lived a life of dramatic ups and downs, decided to present a unique take on a selection of traditional fairy tales as a Table Top Card Game, Illustrated Book, Coloring Book, and Collection of Art. He hoped the lessons contained within might help others along their journey through the dark woods of existence. With the success of this campaign we'll deliver a wicked card game, beautiful illustrated book, twisted coloring book, and turn "Out of the Woods" into an ongoing series of games, books, and original art. Don't be eaten by wolves. Get Out of the Woods!

Dear Woodland Dwellers

As we wait patiently for all the artists and designers and writers and factories to do their thing to make Out of the Woods a physical reality you can hold in your hands, we also would like you to know that we're already in the process of wondering what an Out of the Woods 2 might look like.

Cute Red
Cute Red

We already know that we want to use 10 brand new fairy tales, and we already know we want to use our good friend Jennifer D'aww for the art (samples of which you can see scattered around this very post). But what we're interested in is firstly, what do you think of that idea so far (Using new tales and having Jennifer's art)?  And secondly what kind of game-play that you might be interested in?

Squeek

So fire off in the comments below about anything that might take your fancy for Out of the Woods 2. E.g... How many players?  Should there be accompanying bits and pieces to play the game, or just using cards is fine? Do you prefer something with stats and numbers and depth, or you like to keep it simple with a 5 minute learning curve?

Rawr!

Literally tell us anything that takes your fancy about what you've read and seen so far.
We want to keep making games as good as they can possibly be and provide as much fun as humanly possible to our fans, and the only way we can do that is by listening to you     :)

So as mentioned, sound off in the comments below or drop us a line in the OOTW FB page inbox (or even in the comments on FB when we post this article there).   These would be the three best places to get your comments seen by us!

Big chilly hugs from Shanghai and American, Martin and Lulu.

URGENT!!! One month until Backerkit Lock-down.
over 6 years ago – Mon, Nov 13, 2017 at 12:20:05 AM

Dear Woodies

We are now around 1 month away from locking down Backerkit.
This will essentially mean than you can no longer make changes to your account details (Such as increasing your pledge or changing your shipping address)

We still have a LOT of people who have not filled in their details.
Look.... 267    :(

Of course, all of you should have a Backerkit link in your inboxes by now, however one of our Superbackers (Angela: the BIRDen of frosted Brownies) wrote this handy little piece of info for you if you want to try logging in and checking your account yourself....

1) Do you have a Backerkit account? https://www.backerkit.com/master_backer_accounts/sign_in
2) Or if you don't:
https://www.backerkit.com/master_backer_accounts/sign_up
(use the email you use for KS or if you login with FB, use that one)

We would then add to that if you're STILL having issues or are confused in any way, please send us a private message.  Don't write your confusion and/or requests in the comments below.

Another question we get a lot is "I think I filled in my details but am unsure" or "Can you check my details are right?"
To which we would reply that if you have your Backerkit link, you can certainly answer both these questions yourself.  You have access to all the same info that we do   :)

--------------

And finally, in regards to our urgent Backerkit message, we also still have around 40 high level backers who have not contacted us through the Survey Monkey link we sent out about how they would like their name to be displayed in the OOTW Illustrated Book.
All of you who that applies to, please do that too or we're going to just have to use your Kickstarter names if you don't tell us in time.

Again, if you can't find the survey monkey link in your inboxes or need assistance, please send us a private message.

-------------

Right, now that the important stuff is out of the way, have a look at the Prince from Rapunzel image that's going into the Colouring Book   :)

Who turned out the lights?

Big wintery hugs from American, Martin and Lulu.

Unleash your rainbow of creativity!

Dear Woodies

Here we are with another little update for you on our progress.

As you probably all know from the last update, ALL the coloured art is now complete.... but what about the non-coloured art for the Colouring Book?
Well, that's also roaring ahead!

Although the sketches we got from YDY during production were excellent, we still needed to have them tidied up for you to colour in.
And that's where our awesome pal and cutesy artist, Jennifer D'aww comes in, smoothing out those lines and just being generally ace.

Have a look at the Giant and Red Riding Hood, and the difference between sketch and tidy.

I tell you, we got super excited when seeing the colouring images :)

So.... from a heavily polluted Shanghai *cough cough*, big hugs from American, Martin and Lulu.

Major Milestone Reached..... yay!
over 6 years ago – Sat, Nov 04, 2017 at 12:49:23 AM

Morning Woodies

We thought you'd all like to know that we recently hit a big milestone.

ALL the art for the cards is now finished.  :D
That's right.  All 47 pieces are done and dusted, so we'd like to give a big thanks to YDY (the art outsourcing studio) for making such amazing pictures and following our directions to a T.
They've been a delight to work with!

Here's a montage of some of my favourite pics to celebrate...

Amazing Stuff
Amazing Stuff

And of course, everything else is still moving forwards too such as book design and layout, box design and construction, certificates etc etc...

So, while we have your attention, this might be a good time to remind you of 2 things.

1) Sorry to sound like a broken record, but we still have 280 backers out there who have not completed their Backerkit survey (essentially telling us where you live and what you'll receive).  If that's you, please check your inboxes for emails about that or contact us here ASAP if you need help with this.

2) Can our high tier backers (the ones who'll get their name in the book), also check their inboxes for a Survey Monkey email. We need to know how you want your names displayed in the book before 'lock-down'. Again, contact us here if you need assistance with that.

Big hugs from a chilly but sunny Shanghai.

A Certificate of Thanks!

Dear Woodies

We thought you might all like to see the 1st draft of what we're thinking about for the collectors certificate (the stretch goal we achieved at $200,000)

Of course in this upload, the quality is a little low and it has SAMPLE plastered across it, you know, for reasons :)

Thankyouverymuch!
Thankyouverymuch!

What do you think? Pop your feedback below because our illustrator, Alex Crowley (www.alexcee.com) will be watching.

I guess we can also take this time to tell all of you backers who haven't done it already to please FILL IN YOUR BACKERKIT SURVEYS. There's still over 300 of you and less than 2 months to go before lockdown :(

Contact us right here through your Kickstarter account if you need help with that.

Big bright and sunny autumnal hugs from American, Martin and Lulu
